It’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a good time to highlight northern Arizona’s only Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. The Baskin Breast Care Center at Dignity Health Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) in Prescott Valley is accredited by the American College of Radiology® (ACR).
The ACR includes more than 41,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists. “ACR accreditation is known as the gold standard of medical imaging,” says Kathleen Hoffer, Imaging Manager, Baskin Breast Care Center. “Earning it is a reflection of the knowledge, skill, and dedication of our entire team—radiologists, breast imaging technologists, patient navigators, and more. To people throughout our region, it means they can be confident in the services provided by our team.”
What does ACR accreditation mean?
ACR accreditation is voluntary and signifies that the Baskin Breast Care Center has achieved the highest practice standards possible. It’s over and above the licenses, surveys, and accreditations required of all imaging centers. The ACR accreditation process includes comprehensive evaluations conducted by board-certified physicians and expert medical physicists.
Accreditation means YRMC’s Breast Care Center has the finest practice standards for:
Image excellence
Staff qualifications
Facility equipment
Quality control standards
ACR-accredited imaging centers excel in breast MRI, breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy), mammography, and stereotactic breast biopsy.
Baskin Breast Care Center introduces a state-of-the-art examContrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) will soon be added to the center’s menu of advanced diagnostic services. CEM takes mammography to a new level by using iodinated contrast dye to detect new blood vessels that develop when cancers grow. CEM may be recommended for women with dense breast tissue and those at increased risk for breast cancer.
An October reminder
This October, the Baskin Breast Care Center team is reminding women of the importance of annual breast exams and screenings.
“We recommend women work with their health care provider to determine the best screening plan for their individual health,” Hoffer says.
