Spectrum Healthcare, an integrated whole health service provider in Yavapai County, is now offering Covid-19 rapid tests. The results can be provided in as little as 15 minutes. The test is an Abbott ID NOW SARS-CoV-2 NAA molecular test. There are currently two types of diagnostic tests available for COVID-19, molecular and antigen. Antigen testing uses a nasal or throat swab to get a fluid sample that is then tested to detect proteins on the outside of the virus.

Molecular testing also uses nasal and throat swabs to obtain fluid samples. Molecular tests include testing methodologies such as Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA) and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). “To put it more simply, the molecular tests offer highly accurate and reliable results, and are considered the gold standard for diagnostic testing,” stated CEO of Spectrum Healthcare, April Rhodes. “We’re proud to be offering this new rapid system of testing to the citizens of Yavapai County.”

The tests accuracy is determined based on its sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity refers to the tests ability to correctly identify a person with the illness. Specificity refers to the tests ability to correctly identify a person without the illness. For a test to be considered accurate or viable the sensitivity and specificity rate must be above 90%. The Abbott ID NOW SARS-CoV-2 test has a 94.7% sensitivity rate (positive agreement) and a 98.6% specificity rate (negative agreement). Indicating that this test is highly accurate in detecting both positive and negative result for COVID-19.

People can receive the tests by simply driving up to the new curbside service at any Spectrum Healthcare location listed below. Parking spaces are marked by signage and patients can text or call to receive the curbside testing. The test cost is $85.00 and your insurance will be billed.
