On any given day, the Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) Pendleton Center for Health and Wellness is a happy destination, buzzing with energy and camaraderie. But for several months, it was quiet, due to COVID-19 closures. Members were anxiously awaiting its reopening, which has now happened.
“We’re thrilled to be back up and running, and we’re so happy to see our members again,” says Andrea Klein, Director of Preventive Medicine and Wellness at YRMC.
While necessary, the temporary closure was especially disappointing at the Prescott location. The center had opened in a new space at 1112 West Iron Springs Road. Members and staff alike were thrilled to begin working together in the fresh, state-of-the-art facility.
“As you can imagine, we were so excited to be in our new location,” Klein states. “The whole space was designed with our specific needs in mind. We took the best of the old location and put in a new, updated center with lots of brand new equipment. So, it was hard when we had to take a break.”
“But now that we’re open, the momentum is even greater,” Klein adds. “We’re happy to be back. The Pendleton Center has always been a social thing too, and our members have expressed how much they missed each other.”
Cleaning, hygiene and physical distancing precautions are in place at both the Prescott and Prescott Valley locations. To ensure that everyone has a safe experience:
- Staff is temperature screened daily
- Staff members are trained on cleaning and distancing protocol and wear personal protective equipment
- Masks are required in all areas
- Members are temperature screened upon arrival
- Some equipment is marked “do not use” for physical distancing
- Members are asked to wipe down equipment before and after use
- Staff regularly disinfects equipment and surfaces throughout the day
- A limited class schedule allows for thorough cleaning between classes
- Limited class sizes promote physical distancing
“We reopened with a variety of classes so there’s still something for everyone,” says Klein.
The Pendleton Center reopened with its most popular classes including, Yoga, Balance, Stretch, and Silver Sneakers. As attendance demands have increased, the Center is offering additional sessions of each class.
“We do see that we’re getting busier now that the word is out,” Klein observes.
Klein recommends that people sign up by phone or in person to make sure there’s availability for the class and time they’re interested in. For the latest schedule and to reserve a spot, call (928) 771-5794 in Prescott, or (928) 759-5920 in Prescott Valley.
“Of course, some people are still unable to come to a public location, or they’re not ready to venture out just yet,” Klein notes. “We are here for those people too. They can give us a call and we’ll offer online resources such as plant-based nutrition information, online home exercise video suggestions and other resources.”
“We look forward to having you come in when you can,” Klein continues, “But our priority is to make sure you’re safe.”
