Dancing for the Stars began seven years ago with a vision of giving the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Arizona a hand up. This event is the region’s premier dance competition pairing professional dance choreographers with local community leaders for a star-studded performance.
Seven years ago and 62 dance couples later, this premier dance-off is big enough to fill the Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center at Yavapai College. Not just one performance, but two consecutive nights are filled with extravagant dancing by celebrities you already know. It all started with the fabulous 11. The original dance couples brave enough to step out on stage were Steve Sischka & Dawn Wilson, Sheila Polk & Andy Smith, Marnie Uhl & Ronnie De Benedetta, MacKenzie VanWormer & Leo Gallegos, Leza Dandos & Zack Leonard, Larry Stephan & Sarah Hinson, Joe Baynes & Alanna Goodell, Father Darrin Merlino & Carie Hughes, Dr Todd Geiler & Mary Heller, Cheryl Rolland & Patrick Wilcox and Brad Fain & Kelly Robertson. Thank you!
On August 25 & 26, the dance goes on at Yavapai College, with dancing big enough to fill the largest stage in town. Professional choreographer Carie Hughes has a heart for the kids and trained dancers all seven years. This year she is paired with Watters Garden Center owner Ken Lain. “This is a lot more fun than originally thought, and all the money raised keeps our Boys & Girls Clubs alive and well for another year. It doesn’t get better,” said Ken.
