Culinary Delight: Noun – Definition- Any food dish that is simply delicious.

As a young girl in the 70’s, I have so many wonderful food memories and culinary delights.  I remember going to restaurants in North Chicago with my Nana and Poppy.  One restaurant that always created culinary delights was “Scotty’s.”  A fine dining establishment with a beautiful banquet room.  I was able to order anything off the menu.  The New York Strip Steak and Salad Bar experience was my true culinary delight.

Another culinary delight was the Garlic Shrimp at Cliff & Tommy’s in the South Suburbs of Chicago.  Our family would go there as a treat.  When the waitress lifted the silver lid off the entrée dish, I was ready for a party.

You may have heard me mention before about the food that my Grandma Scardine made.  Wonderful culinary delights. The Italian sausage sandwiches that my father would grill served on an Italian roll with peppers, still leaves me delightful. I was the luckiest girl to be able to enjoy such wonderful food- “Culinary Delights!”

Fast forward, over four decades later, I am still celebrating culinary delights daily.

The culinary industry is by far one of the toughest jobs around.  Not only physically but emotionally as well.

We are on our feet for shifts sometimes up to twelve hours.  That involves a lot of steps.

Some of our team members lift up too and over fifty pounds of food and carry hot boiling pots of water.

Alongside my team, our team members who work a variety of positions in our commercial kitchen and service positions.  My husband Richard and I were discussing how much of a training kitchen we have.  People sharing their passions and culinary delights.  We are a “hustle and bustle” team.  I have witnessed our team members changing behaviors and overcoming negative habits both personally and professionally.

Shortly before the pandemic started I was so fortunate to receive business coaching from Pamela Shelly Garland, the owner and founder of Garland Coaching and Consulting here in Prescott.   Such a life changing experience.  A period of self -discovery.

When speaking with one of my staff members, I was moved when Christy said, “We are a family.”

It is not always easy, however we encourage each other to press on and keeping our spirits uplifted.

My wish is that I continue set the tone for my team members as well as be persistent and continue to learn.

When I step away to work on other projects that our company needs me to address, I know that our team will continue to focus on the Culinary Delights for themselves and the community.

“Food is everything we are. It’s an extension of nationalist feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It’s inseparable from those from the get-go.” – Anthony Bourdain
