When cooked, they turn a pale pink and have a slightly sweet taste with a meaty texture. Anasazi beans are high in dietary fiber, protein, and micronutrients. They also contain the minerals manganese, folate, potassium, phosphorous and iron.
Along with summer comes those dreaded pests that want to invade our space! Some essential oils that are good at deterring pests and are antibacterial that you can find at The Honeyman include:
Lemon essential oil. * A few drops put in a glass spray bottle with water can be used as a disinfectant on surfaces or as an insect repellent on skin. With a word of caution, not to be used on skin exposed to direct sunlight nor for 12 hours after use on skin.
Eucalyptus essential oil.* Two drops in a bucket of hot water can be used as a disinfectant to mop floors, or mix with water and white vinegar to clean and disinfect surfaces. Diffuse this oil as a natural decongestant and cough suppressant or as a mosquito repellant.
Citronella essential oil.* Repel flying insects with a mixture of citronella oil and water in a glass spray bottle and apply to skin or diffuse the oil into the air. This oil also prevents the growth and spread of harmful bacteria.
Peppermint essential oil.* This oil is a deterrent to ants and mice! Soak a cotton ball with peppermint oil and place at entry points or in their paths to deter these pests. Warning: this oil is possibly toxic to cats.
There are many essentials available at The Honeyman and we will be discussing more of them in future articles. These are just a few and a fraction of their uses. You may wish to take the time to do a little research and learn about essential oils and the many uses and benefits they provide.
- Most all essential oil should be diluted prior to coming in contact with skin. You can usejust about any oil as a carrier oil to apply essential oils to your skin. A good measure of mixture for this is 12 drops oil to 1 of carrier oil.
